The has been a growing interest from Barangay Ginebra fans to see the Fil-Tongan Asi Taulava play with their favourite team. Actually Taulava himself said it on his twitter account that he would want to retire with PBA’s most popular ball club.

According to an interview Taulava’s manager, Sheryl Reyes said "He is very intense to play for Ginebra. Asi is very vocal about it. He even posts it on Twitter. Some even say Asi was lobbying, but he is not. He just wants to wear his favourite jersey before he retires - and it’s obvious what that is.”

The task of bringing Taulava back to the PBA with Ginebra SanMiguel team will not be easy. Everything will have to go through Taulava’s former team Meralco Bolts. Before Taulava signs with the Beermen on ABL, he was offered the maximum salary by Meralco which in turn gave his playing right to them.

According to the terms of the PBA's uniform player's contract, players offered maximum contract by the last team they played for will not be eligible for the two-year sit-out rule, meaning their rights are held by the mother team unless released or traded to another team.

Reports says that San Miguel and Meralco officials have initiated the talks to get the services of Taulava to play for Ginebra but the Bolts are asking for Ginebra’s first-round pick for 2013.

Sheryl Reyes said “Basta hindi sila nagkasundo sa unang transaction. Then I asked Mr. Butch Antonio what else they want for Asi’s rights, he said: ‘What could we offer?’ then San Miguel asked them what they want, Sa ngayon, wala pa ring response ang Meralco about it”
